Karachi, Chief Secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Nadeem Aslam Chaudhry, accompanied by Additional Chief Secretary Interior, Abid Majeed, conducted a detailed inspection of the Central Jail Peshawar today, focusing on the conditions and facilities provided to the inmates.
According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the visit included IG Jails Usman Mehsud, Additional IG Jails Hamidur Rehman, and Superintendent Jail Wasim Khan. During their inspection, the Chief Secretary and Additional Home Secretary interacted with the prisoners, inquiring about their concerns and examining the various sectors of the jail.
The officials received a comprehensive briefing on the security measures and amenities available to the prisoners. The Chief Secretary learned about the Jail Industries initiative, which aims to impart skills to the inmates, thereby enabling them to support their families post-release. Additionally, the team was informed about the implementation of a video link system, facilitating remote court appearances for the prisoners.
Moreover, the Chief Secretary visited the Sarhad Mental Hospital within the jail premises. He directed the swift relocation of the hospital to its designated location and commended the steps taken by the IG Prisons for enhancing prisoner welfare and initiating positive activities across provincial jails. Emphasizing the importance of maintaining high standards, he instructed that special attention should be paid to cleanliness and ensuring the provision of all necessary facilities to the prisoners.
