Peshawar, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sardar Ali Amin Khan Gandapur, has pledged immediate action to alleviate the challenges faced by tobacco farmers in the Swabi district. This commitment was made during a meeting with a delegation from the National and Provincial Assembly, emphasizing the government’s prioritization of agricultural concerns amid rising electricity costs and inflation.
According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, the meeting was attended by influential political figures including National Assembly member Asad Qaiser and several provincial ministers. The delegation presented the pressing issues of increased operational costs due to inflated electricity bills and the overall impact of economic inflation on tobacco cultivation. In response, Chief Minister Gandapur directed relevant authorities to implement necessary policy adjustments and tax reforms specifically targeting the relief of tobacco farmers.
The meeting also highlighted potential reforms in provincial taxation on tobacco as a measure to support the agricultural sector in Swabi. Additionally, the Chief Minister’s advisor on finance was present, indicating the administration’s serious approach towards economic solutions for the agricultural community.
