Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Advances Higher Education Reforms with Focus on Digitization and Solar Energy

Peshawar, In a significant move to reform the higher education sector, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Higher Education, Meena Khan Afridi, chaired a review meeting on Wednesday at the Civil Secretariat’s Higher Education Committee Room. The meeting centered on digitizing educational data and integrating solar energy systems across government colleges.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Secretary Higher Education Arshad Khan and other officials provided a detailed briefing on the progress of these reforms. The minister was informed about the completion of data collection from all colleges and universities, which will soon be digitized to enhance accessibility and support the implementation of the e-transfer policy. Discussions at the meeting also covered the development of a uniform curriculum, with several drafts already forwarded to the Higher Education Commission in Islamabad.

The meeting emphasized the importance of aligning educational offerings with market needs through STEAM education to increase employment opportunities for graduates. Additionally, a 2 billion rupee endowment fund from the Chief Minister is awaiting summary approval to further support educational reforms.

The provincial minister also discussed enhancing digital skills through partnerships with the Chinese government and proposed the solarization of all government colleges to make educational institutions more energy self-sufficient. The initiative aims to install 10 KVA solar energy systems using college funds, with a broader goal to transition entirely to solar power.

These reforms are part of a broader effort to improve system efficiency and transparency within the higher education sector in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
