Khuzdar Implements Effective Flood Management, Boosts Agricultural Resources

Khuzdar: The Irrigation Department in Khuzdar has successfully managed the challenges posed by recent rains and floods, overseeing the region’s dams and waterways to optimize water storage and ensure safety.

According to Directorate General Public Relation – Govt of Balochistan, under the directives of Provincial Minister of Irrigation Mir Sadiq Imrani and Secretary Irrigation Hafiz Abdul Majid, department officials were constantly present in the field, inspecting dams and water capacities throughout the district. This vigilant monitoring led to strategic releases of water from spillways where necessary and confirmed substantial water storage that promises significant benefits for the area.

The efforts of the irrigation team, led by Chief Engineer Yar Muhammad and including Superintendent Engineer Mir Aurangzeb Zehri and Engineer Farid Pindrani among others, have resulted in the effective accumulation of rainwater in the region’s reservoirs. Engineer Pindrani noted that the large-scale water conservation not only enhances the underground water levels but also supports the agriculture sector and alleviates drinking water scarcity.

The region’s infrastructure includes 67 dams with a combined capacity of 256,000 acre-feet, with recent rains contributing to a storage of 142,000 acre-feet. These efforts are part of a broader government initiative prioritizing dam construction to meet future water needs and support local agriculture and herding, which are vital to the livelihoods of Khuzdar’s predominantly rural population.

The successful water management and dam operations reflect the government’s long-term strategy to address water scarcity, bolster agricultural activities, and prepare for future environmental challenges in Khuzdar.
