Khurram Parvez sent to judicial custody, shifted to Tihar jail

New Delhi, December 04, 2021 (PPI-OT):Prominent Kashmiri human rights activist Khurram Parvez, after spending 12 days under the custody of Indian infamous National Investigation Agency (NIA), on Saturday was taken into judicial detention and shifted to notorious Tihar jail in New Delhi.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Parvez’s family said that he appeared today before a court, which sent him to judicial custody. Parvez’s wife, Sameena Mir, talking o media said, “He (Parvez) has been sent to judicial custody till December 23 and shifted to Tihar jail.”

Khurram Parvez, who is the coordinator of Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS), a Srinagar-based human rights group, was arrested on November 22 by India’s dreaded NIA and was booked under the draconian Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) and various sections of the Indian Penal Code on fake charges. A day after being arrested Parvez was flown to New Delhi.

Meanwhile, regional and international rights bodies and activists continue to react over the arrest of Parvez, demanding his immediate release. The United Nations on Wednesday had expressed concern over the arrest of a prominent Kashmiri rights activist and called for his release. “We are deeply concerned at the arrest of Kashmiri human rights defender Khurram Parvez,” the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) said in a statement.
