Khunjerab Pass Extended Opening to Boost Pakistan-China Trade

Islamabad, In a move to enhance trade between Pakistan and China, the Khunjerab Pass will remain open until January 16th, extending beyond its usual seasonal closure period.

According to Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Khunjerab Pass, which serves as the highest paved international border, connects Gilgit Baltistan in Pakistan with China’s autonomous region of Xinjiang. Typically, the pass is closed from November to March due to severe winter weather conditions.

The decision to temporarily open the pass this week reflects a strategic effort to facilitate and boost trade activities between the two neighboring countries.
