Khalil Hashmi Assumes Charge as Pakistan’s New Ambassador to China

Beijing, Ambassador Khalil Hashmi, a seasoned diplomat, has officially begun his tenure as the new Ambassador of Pakistan to China. Hashmi, who has a distinguished career in diplomacy spanning nearly three decades, was warmly received in Beijing, marking the start of his new role.

According to Press Information Department, Ambassador Hashmi was welcomed by Mr. Zhang Maoming, Deputy Director General of the Asia Department of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He succeeds Ambassador Moin ul Haque, who retired earlier this month. In his inaugural official act, Hashmi presented a copy of his credentials to Mr. Hong Lei, Director General of the Protocol Department. He expressed appreciation for the warm reception and emphasized his commitment to enhancing the already strong bilateral relationship between Pakistan and China. Director General Hong Lei extended his best wishes for a successful tenure and promised full support. Ambassador Hashmi’s extensive experience includes serving as Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations in Geneva and at Pakistan’s Permanent Mission to New York. His first diplomatic assignment was at the Pakistan Embassy in Copenhagen. In Islamabad, he has held key roles, including as Director General of various divisions, showcasing his expertise in both bilateral and multilateral diplomacy.
