Thiruvananthapuram, December 27, 2022 (PPI-OT):An Adivasi youth in the Indian state of Kerala accused the Public Service Commission (PSC) of denying him government job due to his buck teeth. The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with users calling out Kerala PSC’s “casteism” and “unscientific policies.” Attappadi native Muthu lost the job as beat officer in the forest department though he qualified the written and physical tests conducted for the post.
Muthu said he had submitted application for the post of beat forest officer as per the special recruitment procedures of the Kerala PSC. The tribal youth qualified in the written examination held on 3 November and later qualified the physical efficiency test. However, Muthu did not receive the letter for interview. When he approached the authorities, the officials informed him that his buck teeth recorded in the medical certificate resulted in the loss of job.
In a video shared on social media, Muthu said he could not correct it due to poverty. At least Rs 18000 will be needed to correct his teeth, he said. In another development, KIMS Alshifa Hospital, a private hospital in Malappuram offered free treatment to Muthu.
