KDA Director General Calls for Immediate Reforms to Enhance Financial Stability


Karachi, Director General of the Karachi Development Authority (KDA), Syed Shujaat Hussain, has underscored the urgent need for reforms to achieve financial stability within the organization. During a meeting with senior officers at the Civic Center, he emphasized the importance of regular assessment and rectification of deficiencies, highlighting the crucial role of KDA officers and employees in the improvement of the organization.



According to Karachi Development Authority, the meeting saw DG Hussain directing the Finance Department to expedite the preparation of the KDA’s annual budget for 2024-2025 to ensure its timely approval in the upcoming governing body meeting. Additionally, the Planning and Urban Design Department, led by Director Rafiq Khoro, was identified as pivotal in the city’s development, with a noted necessity for better resources, including computers and equipment, to enhance operational efficiency.



Finance and Accounts Director Muhammad Kashif Siddiqui briefed on the financial status of KDA, mentioning the imperative need for funds to ensure timely payment of salaries to retired officers and employees. He revealed that the department is nearing the completion of its computerization process, which will secure the data of officers and employees and facilitate the long-overdue auditors’ examination.



DG Hussain also highlighted the challenges faced by the city’s parks, with Director Parks Muhammad Zahid reporting that out of 379 parks, 193 are encroached upon, and only 48 have established boundary walls. Hussain ordered the preparation of a comprehensive report on all parks and initiated steps to reclaim them from encroachment, underscoring the potential for increased revenue through proper management and rental notices.



The meeting, attended by key administrative figures including Member Administration Naveed Anwar and Secretary KDA Behzad Aamir Memon, marked a significant push towards enhancing KDA’s financial health and operational effectiveness, setting a precedent for accountability and proactive governance in Karachi’s urban development sector.
