KCEU for int’l probe into India’s involvement in Canadian Sikh leader’s murder

Brussels, September 26, 2023 (PPI-OT): The Chairman of Kashmir Council Europe (KCEU), Ali Raza Syed, has demanded an international independent probe into the Indian government’s involvement in the murder of Canadian Sikh leader, Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

Ali Raza Syed in a statement in Brussels said, the Indian involvement in the killing of a Sikh leader on the Canadian soil is a severe violation of Canada’s sovereignty and is contrary to the fundamental rules by which free, open and democratic societies conduct themselves. Brutal murder of Hardeep Singh created fear and panic among the Indian minorities including Sikhs living in other countries.

The KCEU Chairman raised concerns over the Hindutva ideology in India while citing the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar. He asserted that this ideology is being employed to justify the persecution of religious and ethnic minorities in India.

Ali Raza Syed said, the Narendra Modi-led Indian government was already involved the extra judicial killings in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and brutal acts against the minorities in different Indian states. He urged the global community to hold India accountable for its human rights abuses including “extrajudicial” killings of the people of occupied Kashmir and minorities in India.

He demanded that the persons involved in the murder of the Canadian Sikh leader should be brought to justice and international community particularly the UN should take this matter seriously. “We shall raise this issue in the European institutions. We condemn the murder of Hardeep Singh and express our solidarity with the Sikh community,” he said.

Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, has announced the Indian government’s involvement in the killing of the Sikh leader outside a Sikh temple in Surrey city of British Colombia (B.C) on June 18 this year. “Canadian security agencies have been actively pursuing credible allegations of a potential link between agents of the Government of India and the killing of a Canadian citizen, Hardeep Singh Nijjar,” Trudeau said on last Monday in a speech to the House of Commons.
