SRINAGAR, In a collective act of defiance and remembrance, Kashmiris residing on both sides of the Line of Control and around the globe are set to mark October 27 as “Black Day.” This symbolic observation serves to communicate a clear message to the international community: the Kashmiri people’s unwavering rejection of India’s unlawful occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.
According to a news release by Kashmir Media Service, this specific date holds historical significance as it marks the day in 1947 when Indian forces entered and subsequently occupied Jammu and Kashmir. This act blatantly contravened the Partition Plan of the subcontinent and was executed against the expressed wishes of the Kashmiri populace.
The call for this commemoration has been issued by the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC). Further intensifying the significance of the day, the APHC has called for a complete shutdown across the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) on October 27. Through a statement released in Srinagar, the APHC has urged the international community to abandon its passive stance and actively work towards organizing a plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir. This action, they believe, is in line with the UN Security Council’s resolutions and is vital for enabling the Kashmiri people to exercise their right to self-determination.
In a show of unity and a means to spread their message, posters have surfaced across Srinagar and other parts of the occupied region. These posters, issued by various organizations including APHC, Resistance Youth Forum Jammu and Kashmir, and Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Movement, among others, characterize October 27, 1947, as the most somber moment in Jammu and Kashmir’s history. The posters’ reach has been amplified through sharing on several social media platforms, including X, Facebook, and WhatsApp.
In a related development, the APHC-AJK Convener, Mehmood Ahmed Saghar, while speaking from Islamabad, shed light on the obstructions posed by India in realizing the plebiscite. He stated that India has consistently hindered its execution by failing to withdraw its military personnel from the occupied regions.
