Islamabad, A recent webinar held in Islamabad, dedicated to Kashmir Black Day, revolved around the theme of the continuous assertion by the Kashmiri people of their right to self-determination. Notable figures convened to discuss “76 years of India’s usurpation of Jammu and Kashmir and our role and responsibilities in the freedom movement.”
According to a news release by Kashmir Media Service, notable speakers included leader of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference Azad Jammu and Kashmir (APHC-AJK) chapter, Altaf Hussain Wani, alongside Kashmiri scholars Dr. Waleed Rasool and Dr. Ashraf Wani. During the event, all presenters unanimously stated that Kashmiri people remain steadfast and will not compromise on their inalienable right to self-determination. They also highlighted the pivotal role of each individual in the endeavor to liberate the inhabitants of occupied Jammu and Kashmir from what they termed an “illegal Indian occupation.”
Reflecting on history, the panelists described October 27, 1947, as a particularly significant and grim day for Jammu and Kashmir, marking the date when Indian troops took control of the region, in stark contrast to the wishes of the local population.
The speakers concluded by addressing the global community, appealing to the United Nations and international human rights bodies to intervene. They urged these organizations to both curb the reported hostilities in occupied Jammu and Kashmir and actively engage in finding a resolution to the prolonged Kashmir issue.
