Islamabad, February 04, 2022 (PPI-OT):The Kashmiris reject Indian occupation and only want their inalienable right to self-determination according to the United Nations Security Council resolutions. The 5th January resolution of the United Nations Security Council provides the roadmap for resolving the lingering Kashmir dispute, said a report released by Kashmir Media Service, today.
The report said the Kashmir dispute is the oldest issue in the UNSC and its resolutions pledge the right to self-determination to the Kashmiri people. The UN resolutions call for settlement of the Kashmir dispute as per the Kashmiris’ aspirations, it said. The report further said India’s August 5, 2019 illegal and unilateral actions violate the UN resolutions on Kashmir, adding that despite the passage of 74 years, the Kashmiris are still waiting for fulfilment of the promise of holding an UN-supervised plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir.
The report maintained that the UN is legally and morally bound to secure implementation of its resolutions on Kashmir as settlement of the lingering dispute as per the Kashmiris’ aspirations is imperative for peace and stability in South Asia. It said that the UN must fulfill its responsibilities regarding Kashmiris’ right to self-determination as the decades-old unresolved dispute has put a question mark on the World Body’s credibility.
