Kashmiris Mark 27th October as Black Day in Protest of Indian Occupation

Srinagar, Kashmiris from both sides of the Line of Control (LoC) and globally are commemorating 27th October as Black Day, signaling to the international community their disapproval of India’s unendorsed occupation of their territory.

According to a news release by Kashmir Media Service, Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) witnessed a complete shutdown by its residents. Concurrently, protest marches, rallies, and seminars are taking place in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan, and globally. These events criticize both the 1947 invasion by the Indian army and the 2019 revocation of IIOJK’s special status by the Indian government led by Narendra Modi.

Historically, on this day in 1947, Indian forces entered Jammu and Kashmir, contradicting the Subcontinent’s Partition Plan, and seized the region contrary to the desires of the local populace.
