London, September 01, 2023 (PPI-OT): People across the UK on Friday commemorated second martyrdom anniversary of veteran Kashmiri Hurriyat leader, Syed Ali Gilani. Following a call by Tehreek-e-Kashmir (TeK) UK, people held protest demonstrations in Glasgow, Birmingham, Luton, Manchester, Derby Sheffield, Nelson, Coventry and other cities, demanding respectful burial of Syed Ali Gilani, the icon of Kashmiri resistance against Indian illegal occupation of Jammu and Kashmir.
The veteran leader died in Indian captivity on this day in 2021 at his Hyderpora residence where he was put under illegal house arrest for over a decade. Later, the Indian marauding forces did not let people to hold a respectful burial of the martyred leader. While India has turned occupied Kashmir into a living hell and has imposed graveyard silence by imprisoning all those who seek freedom, people in the UK held demonstrations to condemn the Indian brutal actions in IIOJK.
Recalling the sacrifices by Kashmiris, TeK President Fahim Kayani said Syed Ali Gilani was the epitome of Kashmiris’ resistance against Indian occupation. “Shaheed Gilani Sahab led by example himself by sacrificing his life for the just and genuine cause of freedom from illegal military occupation of Kashmir by India,” he said.
Emphasizing on discipline in ranks and file of resistance movement, Kayani noted while Kashmiris were forced into silence by Indian gun, “things will change”. “We have seen it in past and it is nothing new for us… Kashmiris will rise and Indian occupation will be turned into ash,” he said, urging the people of occupied Kashmir to follow into the footsteps of the veteran leader.
In a joint statement, Kashmiri activists including Muhammad Ghalib, Hanif Raja, Nazir Ahmed Qureshi, Syed Tufail Hussain Shah, Mufti Abdul Majeed, Mufti Fazal Ahmed Qadari, Chaudhry Muhammad Sharif, Chaudhry Nasar Iqbal, Raja Azad, Raja Ali Asghar, Dr Hamad Almushriqi, Muhammad Arif, Bashir Ratvi, Shabbir Hussain, Talat Baseer, Shaukat Sultan, Chaudhry Muhammad Yasin, Raja Javed Iqbal, Chaudhry Allah Ditta and Shabbir Hussain paid tributes to Syed Ali Gilani.
“Gilani Sahab showed us the path to salvation and that is freedom from Indian occupation,” they said. “India has exposed its weakness that it cannot even withstand a dead Kashmiri,” said the Kashmiri activists. They said the Kashmiris will not bow down before the Indian military because they have sacrificed their lives, properties and everything for this sacred cause.
