Islamabad, The Kashmir Media Service has reported that since the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in August 2019, the Indian government has been enacting policies that threaten the unique cultural and ethnic identity of Kashmiris. The reported measures are allegedly part of a larger scheme to alter the demography and undermine the cultural distinctiveness of the predominantly Muslim region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the revocation of Article 370 was a strategic move by the Modi-led Indian government to subsume the identity of the people of the Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK). The report claims that the Indian government is engaged in demographic engineering to transform the region’s Muslim majority into a minority by settling non-local Hindus. Further allegations suggest an intent to overlay a Hindu civilization atop the existing cultural framework of IIOJK.
The report emphasizes the existential threat these actions pose to the Kashmiri identity, highlighting the resolve of the local population to resist and protect their heritage and right to self-determination. It asserts that such Indian unilateral actions cannot alter the disputed status of Kashmir and calls for the revocation of the decisions made on 5th August 2019.
Furthermore, the report appeals to the international community to pressure India to reverse its unconstitutional measures and to address the Kashmir issue in accordance with UN resolutions, underscoring the global responsibility to safeguard the identity and rights of the Kashmiri people.
