Kashmiri Sikhs Form Committee for Community Rights

Srinagar, In a significant development on Wednesday, the Sikh community in Kashmir announced the establishment of the All Kashmir District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee Coordination Committee. This new entity aims to advocate for various community-specific concerns, including obtaining “pahari” status for Sikh-dominated regions, securing specialized employment schemes for youth, and ensuring political representation.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Jaspal Singh, the leader of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee in Srinagar, outlined the committee’s goals during a press briefing. These objectives not only focus on immediate cultural and political gains, such as the inclusion of the Punjabi language in educational curricula and the preservation of key Sikh heritage sites but also aim at long-term empowerment and recognition for the Sikh population in the region.
