Kashmiri Groups Honor Martyrdom of Leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz, Vow to Continue His Mission

Srinagar: Various Kashmiri organizations have commemorated the martyrdom anniversary of the prominent Hurriyat leader Sheikh Abdul Aziz, pledging to carry forward his legacy toward achieving their aspirations for freedom. These sentiments were expressed during remembrances organized by Tehreek Wahdat-e-Islami, Pairwan-e-Wilayat, and the International Forum for Justice and Human Rights in Jammu and Kashmir.

According to Kashmir Media Service, leaders from these organizations, including the detained Chairman of Tehreek-e-Wahdat-e-Islami Fayaz Hussain Jafari, Maulana Syed Sibte Shabbir Qumi of Parwan Wilayat, and Muhammad Ahsan Untoo of the International Forum for Justice and Human Rights, issued separate statements emphasizing the ongoing commitment of the Kashmiri people to continue the struggle initiated by Sheikh Abdul Aziz. They described him as a steadfast leader whose dedication to the Kashmiri freedom movement serves as an inspiration to future generations.

Sheikh Abdul Aziz was killed on August 11, 2008, by Indian troops while leading a protest in the Uri area of Baramulla district against the economic blockade imposed by Hindu extremists from Jammu. This event marked a significant escalation in the regional tensions and has since been a rallying point for resistance against Indian rule.

Further tributes were extended by Uzair Ahmed Ghazali and Usman Ali Hashim, leaders of Pasban-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, who highlighted Abdul Aziz’s fearless leadership and his pivotal role in mobilizing the Kashmiri population against what they termed Indian imperialism.

These statements and memorials underscore the enduring impact of Sheikh Abdul Aziz on the Kashmiri liberation movement and the continued resolve among his followers to see his mission through to its intended end.
