Kashmiri Drivers Assaulted in Ludhiana for Transporting Beef, Allegedly by Hindutva Group Members

Ludhiana, In a violent incident in Ludhiana, Punjab, two Kashmiri truck drivers were reportedly assaulted by members of a Hindutva group. The attack was allegedly motivated by the fact that the drivers were transporting beef.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Aijaz Ahmed Gojri, the brother of one of the victims, recounted that the drivers, Mohammed Yaqoob from Ganderbal and Showkat Ahmed Gojri from Tengpora, Srinagar, were attacked on January 11. After delivering fruits and vegetables in Delhi, they had picked up a consignment of beef in Noida. While en route, they were intercepted by a gang claiming allegiance to a Hindutva group.

Aijaz Ahmed Gojri detailed the brutal assault, stating that the attackers initially damaged the vehicle before physically dragging the drivers out and beating them with iron rods. During the assault, one of the driver’s eyes was critically injured. The goons reportedly filmed the attack, proudly identifying themselves as associates of a Hindutva outfit and using abusive language.

The victims were left on the road and subsequently arrested by the police, who were called by the assailants. Aijaz claimed that the drivers were also mistreated while in police custody. The two are currently being held at the central jail in Ludhiana.

This incident highlights the growing concerns over communal violence and the safety of minority communities in certain parts of India. The reported attack on the Kashmiri drivers underscores the tensions surrounding religious and cultural practices, particularly related to beef consumption, in a country where such issues can often become flashpoints for violence.
