Srinagar, Dr. Mir Mushtaq, a respected doctor from Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, has been honored with an award by the World Health Organization (WHO) for his outstanding contributions to tobacco control within the region.
According to Kashmir Media Service, Dr. Mushtaq is the first physician from the territory to be recognized by WHO in this manner. He has been actively involved with the Tobacco Control Programme at the Directorate of Health Service Kashmir. His dedication to reducing tobacco usage has markedly improved community health and addressed public health challenges in the region, which suffers from high rates of tobacco consumption, especially among the youth. This public health crisis is exacerbated by the ongoing stress and psychological trauma caused by the prolonged conflict and aggressive military actions in the area.
