Kashmiri Diaspora and Base Camp Seen as Pivotal in Freedom Struggle Post-Blackout

Islamabad, The importance of the Kashmiri diaspora and the role of the base camp in the Kashmiri freedom movement have been underscored since the Indian government’s blackout in the region post-August 5, 2019. This viewpoint emerged at a dinner event in Islamabad honoring Nazir Ahmad Qureshi, a senior leader of the Kashmiri Freedom Movement from London, hosted by Kashmiri political and social leader Altaf Ahmed Butt.

According to Kashmir Media Service, discussions at the event focused on the current plight of the Kashmir and Palestine regions, highlighting the need for international awareness and support. The gathering, which included key figures such as Mahmood Ahmed Saghar, convener of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), reflected on strategies to enhance the movement’s impact, both locally and globally.

The attendees collectively emphasized the need to strengthen the Government of State of Azad Jammu, intending to establish it as a genuine “Base Camp” for the Kashmir Freedom Movement. Furthermore, the participants called for legislative efforts from the governments of Azad Kashmir and Pakistan for the rehabilitation of displaced individuals.

Saghar commended Butt for organizing the event and bringing together influential voices in the Kashmiri movement. The discussions concluded with a consensus on the crucial role of the APHC as a unifying force for Kashmiri self-determination. The leaders called for bolstering the APHC’s presence in strategic locations, including Srinagar, Muzaffarabad, Islamabad, as well as internationally in the United Kingdom, Turkey, Gulf Countries, and America.
