Kashmir Trade Alliance Protests Extension of Power Cuts in IIOJK

Srinagar, The Kashmir Trade Alliance (KTA) has strongly criticized the decision to extend power curtailment in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir by an additional 2.5 hours, voicing significant concerns over its impact on daily life and business activities in the region.

According to Kashmir Media Service, Aijaz Shahdhar, the President of KTA, expressed his dissatisfaction in a statement issued in Srinagar. He highlighted the detrimental effects of the extended power cuts imposed by KPDCL on both the daily lives of residents and the operational viability of businesses in Kashmir. Shahdhar stressed the urgency for the government to seek alternative solutions, such as procuring additional electricity from the Northern grid, to fulfill the local power needs.

Shahdhar argued that these measures are crucial for ensuring the uninterrupted operation of businesses and preserving the standard of living in the region. He emphasized that relying solely on extended power outages is not a viable solution and that proactive initiatives are necessary to establish a more reliable power supply for Kashmir.

Additionally, Shahdhar called on the authorities to consider implementing a power amnesty for commercial consumers. He outlined the potential benefits of this proposal, noting that it would create a mutually advantageous scenario where the government could increase its revenue, and consumers would be relieved of their outstanding power liabilities.

The KTA has taken formal action by submitting a memorandum to the concerned authorities, underlining the critical need for a power amnesty scheme specifically designed for commercial users in the region.
