Srinagar: The All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC) has declared that sustainable peace in South Asia hinges on resolving the Kashmir conflict fairly. The organization emphasized the critical situation in Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), where citizens face humiliation and restrictions under the present administration led by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).
According to a statement by Kashmir Media Service, APHC spokesman Advocate Abdul Rashid Minhas called on United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres to address the dire circumstances in the region. Minhas highlighted issues such as arbitrary detentions and harassment by Indian forces, which have become commonplace, alongside the systematic erosion of local rights.
Minhas asserted that regional stability is contingent upon resolving the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the aspirations of its people. He stated that the BJP-led government cannot stifle the legitimate struggle for self-determination among Kashmiris.
The APHC also drew attention to historical instances of violence, referencing the mass rape incidents in Kunan-Poshpora and Chek Saidpura. These acts of sexual violence, particularly the widely condemned Kunan-Poshpora incident from February 23, 1991, continue to deeply affect the Kashmiri population, according to the APHC.
