Bangalore: A recent comment made by a Karnataka High Court judge during a courtroom hearing has provoked significant public uproar. Judge Vidyasagar Chandrashekhara Dinakaran referred to a Muslim-majority area in Bangalore as “Mini Pakistan,” a statement that has highlighted concerns regarding bias within India’s judiciary system.
According to Kashmir Media Service, the remark was made by Judge Dinakaran while he was presiding over a dispute between a landlord and a tenant. The judge’s statement, captured in a video that subsequently spread widely on social media, has resulted in notable backlash. In the clip, Justice Srishananda is heard explaining, “Go to that Mysuru Road flyover. Every auto rickshaw has got 10 people. It is not applicable because the Mysore flyover right up to the flower market from Gori Palya is in Pakistan, not in India. This is the reality. This is the reality. No matter how strict police officer you put there, they will be beaten up there.”
The reaction on social media was swift and broad, with many expressing their displeasure over the judge’s remarks. In response, India’s Supreme Court has taken suo motu notice of the incident. The court has expressed its displeasure and requested a report from the registrar of the High Court. The Supreme Court’s move underscores the importance of maintaining judicial dignity, especially in public statements by judges.
