Srinagar, March 16, 2022 (PPI-OT): In Indian illegally occupied Jammu and Kashmir, senior leader of All Parties Hurriyat Conference, Aga Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi, has termed the judgment of the High Court of the Indian state of Karnataka on hijab disappointing and an attempt to marginalize Islam.

Aga Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi in a statement issued in Srinagar said hijab is not only a shining symbol of Islamic civilization and culture and the identity of Muslim women, but it is also an obligatory Shariah obligation that Muslim women perform as a religious duty.

He maintained that any legislation or judicial order can’t force the Muslim women to abandon the Islamic hijab. It cannot be done, he added. The APHC leader maintained that the religious freedom includes the right to choose one’s religious attire, adding that the state should not determine permissibility of religious clothing.

It is to mention here that falling in line with the Hindutva agenda of the Modi government in India, the Karnataka High Court on Tuesday dismissed various petitions challenging a ban on hijab in education institutions. The Karnataka High Court said wearing Hijab is not an essential religious practice of Islam.
