Karachi to See Major Park Upgrades and New Constructions, Says Mayor

KARACHI: In a move aimed at enhancing public spaces, Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, announced that the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is set to renovate and upgrade 49 existing parks while constructing 47 new ones across the city this year. Information on the location and amenities of these parks will soon be accessible on the KMC’s official website. This initiative is part of a broader effort to transform Karachi into a greener and cleaner city with community and business support.

According to a statement by Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab emphasized that while government actions have improved local parks and recreational facilities, further enhancements are essential. Parks are vital for urban living, and the administration aims to shield them from unauthorized land use and ensure they are well-equipped. The mayor stressed the importance of maintaining park equipment and designated 25% of park areas for recreational activities.

Mayor Wahab also noted that financial resources for the new parks are in place, urging swift completion of these projects. Parks will offer leisure facilities and food services, with revenue collection from service contractors prioritized for park improvements. The Parks Department has been tasked with beautifying city areas, including green belts and roundabouts, by planting seasonal flowers. The ongoing development efforts are part of a collaborative initiative with the Sindh government to enhance urban living conditions.
