Karachi, Residents of North Karachi Sector 5E have raised concerns over the lack of sewer covers, claiming that their complaints have been ignored and deleted from the Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation’s (KWSC) social media page. The area reportedly requires 40 to 50 new sewer covers, a need that has remained unaddressed for some time, increasing the risk of accidents and injuries.
According to Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation, a resident of North Karachi Sector 5E had used KWSC’s new social media platform to request coverage for open manholes. However, the comment section was subsequently removed, and the resident’s complaints were deleted. The resident criticized the performance of the KWSC’s CEO and other local officials, noting that the pressing issue of uncovered manholes has been overlooked despite the risks they pose to the community.
The situation in North Karachi Sector 5E reflects broader issues within the city, where missing manhole covers have led to increased accidents. The resident questioned the purpose of KWSC’s social media presence, whether it serves as a platform for showcasing achievements or addressing and resolving citizens’ concerns. The disappearance of the comment section following the complaint has further fueled dissatisfaction among the residents.
This incident follows a previous episode in 2020, when Sector 5E was flooded with sewage, attracting media attention and prompting actions to rectify the sewage system and clean the manholes. The current situation and response from the KWSC have left the residents of North Karachi questioning the commitment and efficiency of the water and sewerage authorities in addressing public safety concerns.
