Karachi Prepares for Upcoming Rainfall with Enhanced Drainage Measures

Karachi: In anticipation of the new spell of rain forecasted to begin tomorrow, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced comprehensive preparations to manage expected water accumulation in various parts of the city. The Mayor’s office has coordinated with multiple departments to ensure readiness in handling the rainwater effectively.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab has overseen the deployment of essential drainage machinery including three large dewatering pumps, excavators, and dumpers at strategic locations. One of the large dewatering pumps will be stationed at the KMC head office, another near the Merewether Tower on M.A Jinnah Road, and the third at the Governor House, areas known for significant waterlogging.

Mayor Wahab confirmed that all major roads and highways under the jurisdiction of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation are prepared for the rains with necessary drainage arrangements completed. Continuous coordination is maintained with town administrations and other relevant agencies to enhance the city’s response to the expected downpours.

The Mayor also asked for the public’s patience during heavy rains, noting that while drainage might slow temporarily, efforts to clear the water would intensify once the rain stops. He reassured citizens that the municipal administration is well-prepared, with proactive measures taken to ensure the normal flow of water in all major storm water drains and ongoing efforts to clear any potential choke points.

Further supporting the city’s readiness, Mayor Wahab highlighted that KMC’s city wardens will be actively managing traffic and assisting citizens on the roads during the rainfall. He also plans to personally visit various areas of the city to assess the situation and provide direct oversight and instructions to ensure the safety and comfort of the residents during these weather challenges.
