Karachi, In anticipation of Shab-e-Barat, a night marked by prayers and remembrance of deceased loved ones, Karachi’s Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab announced extensive preparations across the city to facilitate citizens visiting graveyards. The arrangements include enhanced lighting, cleaning services around cemeteries, and the establishment of facility centers equipped with essential services at each cemetery.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the announcement was made during a meeting chaired by the Mayor, focusing on the logistics and services to be provided for the upcoming religious observance. The meeting was attended by key municipal officials, including Municipal Commissioner SM Afzal Zaidi, directors of various departments, and other senior officers. They collectively discussed the action plan designed in collaboration with the district administration to ensure that the arrangements for Shab-e-Barat are executed smoothly.
Mayor Wahab emphasized the importance of making the cemeteries accessible and welcoming for the large number of citizens expected to visit. Acknowledging the significance of Shab-e-Barat in the Islamic calendar, he assured that 39 major cemeteries, out of a total of 203 in Karachi, are registered with the municipal corporation and will receive particular attention to ensure proper lighting, cleanliness, and smooth access.
Furthermore, the Mayor directed a thorough inspection of all cemeteries by the Senior Director of Municipal Services to guarantee the cleanliness of key graveyards. A designated Director of Graveyard has been appointed as the focal point for coordinating these efforts, ensuring that all departments collaborate effectively to adhere to the planned arrangements.
The preparations include the deployment of disinfectant sprays, city wardens to assist in traffic management, and the availability of emergency services such as ambulances and fire tenders. These measures aim to provide a serene and respectful environment for citizens during their visits to the graveyards on this solemn occasion.
