Karachi Prepares for Expected Rains with Comprehensive Drainage Strategy

Karachi, In anticipation of forecasted rains, Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad has announced that the city’s administration, under the guidance of Chief Minister Sindh Syed Murad Ali Shah and Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has activated all relevant departments to ensure preparedness. A coordinated strategy focusing on drainage systems has been developed to mitigate potential disruptions and safeguard the public.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the Deputy Mayor outlined the city’s efforts following discussions with the Chief Minister and an inspection tour of critical infrastructure alongside Municipal Commissioner SM Afzal Zaidi and other officials. The tour included evaluations of key drainage sites such as Nehr e Khayam, Mahmoodabad drain, and the Glass Tower drain, with directives issued to enhance readiness for the impending weather conditions.

Murad emphasized the importance of maintaining clear drainage pathways to facilitate efficient water flow and prevent community flooding. Machinery and pumps have been strategically placed at vulnerable points to enable rapid response to any drainage needs that may arise during the rains.

In response to the rain forecasts, an emergency declaration has been issued for the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), including the establishment of a 24-hour emergency desk within the Municipal Services Department. This measure aims to ensure seamless coordination among all entities involved in the city’s rain preparedness efforts, facilitating immediate action to address any issues.

The Deputy Mayor appealed to Karachi’s residents to support these efforts by refraining from disposing of waste in drains, highlighting the collective responsibility to enhance the city’s resilience to rain-related challenges. He assured that all possible steps are being taken to expedite the drainage of sewage and rainwater, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to providing necessary facilities to the citizens during this period.
