Karachi Police to Enhance Training for Private Security Guards

Karachi: In a significant move to elevate the standards of private security services, the Sindh Police held a key meeting at the Central Police Office in Karachi, chaired by Inspector General Sindh Ghulam Nabi Memon. The gathering focused on improving the training and regulation of private security guards, emphasizing adherence to the Sindh Private Security Agencies (Regulation and Control) Ordinance 2000.

According to Sindh Police, the meeting saw contributions from high-ranking officials including DG Headquarters, Police Security, ESD, Training, and Investigations. Major (Retd.) Munir Ahmed, Chairman of All Pakistan Security Agencies, and representatives from the Sindh Home Department were also present. The attendees discussed the current landscape of private security companies and strategies to enhance guard training in collaboration with the government and police.

During the meeting, IG Sindh directed the establishment of a committee led by the DIG of Police Security and Emergency Services Division (PS and ESD) to ensure the enforcement of relevant laws for security companies. This committee, including the AIG Legal and Principal of Saeedabad Police Training College, will review existing laws and ordinances, aiming to make comprehensive recommendations for improvement.

Furthermore, Ghulam Nabi Memon highlighted the urgent need for a specialized training school for private security guards, tailored to meet contemporary security challenges and international best practices. He instructed a four-member team, including DIGs of PS and ESD and Training, along with Principals of Razzaqabad and Police Training College, to formulate plans for this new training facility, from land allocation to curriculum development.
