Karachi Ministers Outline Muharram Electricity Plans, Promise No Loadshedding on Key Days

Karachi: Sindh Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and Local Government Minister Saeed Ghani have announced a series of measures to ensure a continuous electricity supply during Muharram, particularly on significant procession days. At a meeting with religious scholars, it was agreed that there will be no loadshedding from 1st to 12th Muharram at locations of Majlis and processions. This decision aligns with special instructions given to HESCO, SEPCO, and K-Electric.

According to Directorate General Information and PRs – Sindh, the meeting also included discussions on daily public updates from the utilities regarding electricity provisioning and peak hour reductions. The ministers emphasized the importance of uninterrupted power supply from midnight to 6 AM during the first 12 days of Muharram, aiming to provide relief and ensure smooth conduct of religious activities.

The meeting was attended by key figures including Energy Secretary Mossadiq Ahmed Khan, Karachi Commissioner Hasan Naqvi, and representatives from K-Electric, HESCO, and SEPCO. They also agreed that on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram, there will be no loadshedding to facilitate the observance of the most sacred days in the Islamic calendar.

In a commitment to transparency, daily reports on electricity supply and peak hour reductions will be issued to the ministers, ensuring that the public remains well-informed. The ministers expressed their intention to provide maximal comfort to the public during these significant days, emphasizing the government’s efforts to improve service delivery during key religious events.
