Karachi Mayor’s Spokesperson Responds to Jamaat-e-Islami Criticism, Emphasizes Development Efforts

Karachi: Spokesperson for the Mayor of Karachi and Parliamentary Leader of Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) in Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC), Karamullah Waqasi, addressed recent criticisms and highlighted ongoing development efforts in the city. According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Waqasi responded to the criticism from Jamaat-e-Islami by emphasizing that the local government is committed to improving urban infrastructure and public welfare projects, with Rs. 75 billion allocated for development works in Karachi this year.

Waqasi outlined the directives issued by President Asif Ali Zardari to accelerate public welfare projects, which include urban infrastructure improvements, road rehabilitation, drainage system enhancements, and park upgrades. He noted that the KMC staff has been actively engaged in serving the public, even during challenging weather conditions and holidays. Waqasi also highlighted the commitment to ensuring clean drinking water for Karachi’s residents through ongoing projects like the K-IV water supply initiative.

Further addressing the criticisms, Waqasi called out Jamaat-e-Islami for spreading negative propaganda and challenged them to present financial details of funds received during their tenure. He accused Jamaat-e-Islami of using public funds for self-promotion rather than public welfare. Concluding his statement, Waqasi emphasized the PPP’s dedication to practical work and the development of Karachi, while dismissing political allegations as baseless.
