Karachi Mayor Unveils Rs. 55 Billion Budget for 2025-26

Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has unveiled the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s budget for the fiscal year 2025-26, totaling Rs. 55,137.334 million. The budget, presented in the City Council, reflects a surplus of Rs. 146.272 million, with total revenues estimated at Rs. 55,283.606 million.

The revenue for the upcoming fiscal year is broken down into several key components. Current receipts are projected at Rs. 44,149.843 million, while capital receipts amount to Rs. 2,133.763 million. Additionally, District Annual Development Program (ADP) funds are anticipated to contribute Rs. 9,000.000 million.

Expenditure allocations include establishment costs of Rs. 31,591.494 million, contingent expenses of Rs. 3,048.015 million, and repair and maintenance expenses of Rs. 414.610 million. Development projects and works are allocated Rs. 3,013.200 million, with a notable Rs. 7,434.000 million designated for development works under the CLICK initiative.

The budget outlines several key allocations. A pension fund, miscellaneous expenses, and a bailout package receive Rs. 13,410.000 million. Medical and health services are allocated Rs. 7,298.559 million, while municipal services are set to receive Rs. 5,304.944 million. The engineering department is granted Rs. 4,375.192 million.

Revenue generation estimates from various departments include Rs. 2,548.550 million from the Land Lease Department and Rs. 500.100 million from the Estate Department. The budget anticipates Rs. 3,050.100 million from MUCT and advertisement revenue.

Development initiatives feature prominently, with Rs. 7,434.000 million allocated for CLICK development works. Road construction and improvement are allocated Rs. 200 million, while stormwater drain cleaning is budgeted at Rs. 150 million. Upgradation of KMC parks receives an allocation of Rs. 355 million.

Special development initiatives include MUCT funded projects valued at Rs. 500 million and monthly allocations of Rs. 100,000 per union council, totaling Rs. 295.200 million. Solarization of KMC buildings, urban forest development, and shelter homes for drug addicts each receive allocations of Rs. 50 million.
