Karachi Mayor Supports Simple Christmas Celebration in Solidarity with Gaza

Karachi, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab expressed his appreciation for the Christian community’s decision to observe a simple Christmas celebration this year, in solidarity with the Palestinians of Gaza. He reaffirmed the commitment of Karachi and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to support the Christian community during this important occasion.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab met with Cardinal Joseph Coates and Bishop Frederick June to discuss the Christmas programs. During these meetings, held at Cardinal Joseph Coates’ residence adjacent to Anthony Church, the Mayor assured that all necessary municipal facilities would be provided around the Christian places of worship.

Mayor Wahab, along with his Representative for Political Affairs Karamullah Waqasi, Deputy Parliamentary Leader of the People’s Party in the City Council Dil Muhammad, and others, presented a cake to Cardinal Joseph Coates as a gesture of goodwill from the KMC. They discussed the community’s contributions to the development and stability of Pakistan, and the Mayor acknowledged the significant role played by the Christian community in the country’s progress.

Highlighting the Pakistan People’s Party’s manifesto, Mayor Wahab spoke about the party’s commitment to religious freedom and rights for minorities. He emphasized the need for unity in the development and stability of Pakistan. The Mayor also noted the global significance of Christmas and the enthusiasm with which it is celebrated worldwide.

Mayor Wahab mentioned the planned prayer ceremony on December 22 to express solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians in Gaza, inviting the community to participate. He assured the Christian leaders of KMC’s full support and facilities for the Christmas celebrations.

During his visit to Holy Trinity Church, Mayor Wahab was thanked by Bishop Frederick June for participating in the community’s celebrations, highlighting the inclusive approach of the Karachi administration. The Mayor reiterated his responsibility to provide civic facilities to all citizens of Karachi, regardless of race or nationality, and discussed plans to address city problems and beautify Karachi.
