Karachi Mayor Leads Kashmir Solidarity Rally, Asserts Support for Self-Determination

Karachi, Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, in a strong display of solidarity, led a rally to support the Kashmiri people’s struggle for self-determination against Indian aggression, aligning with the United Nations resolution on the matter. The event, which took place on M.A Jinnah Road outside the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) head office, was part of the city’s observance of Kashmir Solidarity Day, emphasizing Karachi’s stance alongside the Kashmiri population.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab voiced the collective sentiment of Karachi’s citizens, stressing the city’s support for the Kashmiris in their time of adversity. He condemned the amendments made by the Indian government to its constitution, which are viewed as immoral by the people of Karachi, and called on the United Nations to intervene and revoke these changes. Wahab’s statement highlighted the city’s efforts to stand with the Kashmiri people, reflecting a broader national solidarity.

Furthermore, Mayor Wahab addressed the recent challenges faced by Karachi, including the aftermath of heavy rains and the efforts made by his team to ensure effective drainage and clear major highways of the city. Despite facing criticism, he maintained that progress has been made in improving the city’s infrastructure and handling of rainwater accumulation, a notable issue in the past.

Wahab also touched upon the political landscape, asserting his adherence to the election commission’s code of conduct and responding to critiques from political opponents. He underscored his commitment to solving Karachi’s problems independently, without external influence, and outlined plans for restructuring the governing body of the Karachi Institute of Heart Diseases (KIHD) to ensure competent leadership.

The rally and statements made by Mayor Wahab reflect a dedication not only to international issues like the Kashmir conflict but also to the domestic challenges within Karachi, showcasing a leadership approach that balances both global solidarity and local governance responsibilities.
