Karachi Mayor Launches Ambitious Korangi Development Projects

Karachi: Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab initiated several development schemes in Korangi District today. Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad, Deputy Parliamentary Leader Dil Muhammad, council members, UC chairmen and vice-chairmen, other officials, and numerous residents attended the groundbreaking ceremony.

Mayor Wahab announced the continued construction of advanced roadways in Korangi. A Rs. 237 million project will rapidly deploy 300,000 square feet of concrete blocks in UC-35, Wards 1 and 2, enhancing travel for residents.

The initiative includes 5,000 running feet of curb blocks, various-sized RCC pipes for rainwater drainage, and 110 new manholes to upgrade the sanitation network.

Mayor Wahab emphasized that citizen well-being and urban advancement are paramount. Korangi’s infrastructure modernization will continue with forthcoming projects enhancing public amenities.

He attributed Karachi’s transformation to new leadership and public trust in the Pakistan Peoples Party, emphasizing service delivery without discrimination. He stated their commitment to serving Korangi’s residents.

Mayor Wahab contrasted their actions with past unfulfilled promises, highlighting the issuance of tenders and commitment to completing projects within the current fiscal year. He pledged transparency and announced a Rs. 2.5 billion allocation for paving unpaved streets with over 850,000 square feet of blocks.

Further improvements include replacing 110,000 running feet of sewage pipes and resurfacing 2.646 million square feet of roadways. He questioned whether such extensive work had been previously undertaken in the region.

He expressed confidence in nationwide progress under a supportive Prime Minister. Mayor Wahab countered negative portrayals of Karachi, highlighting the recent completion of the new Hub Canal, inaugurated by Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, as a significant improvement to the city’s water infrastructure.

He contrasted this achievement with the repeated, yet unfulfilled inaugurations of the K-IV project by previous leaders, stating their administration is now actively working on their assigned portion of K-IV.

Mayor Wahab also noted the completion of a previously unconstructed 16,000-foot road during his tenure and the PPP’s ongoing inner street development. He mentioned a new center for special children in Korangi offering free medical care, education, and training, along with a fully-equipped Child Health Center established with support from the Sindh Chief Minister and Health Minister.

The Jam Sadiq Ali Flyover will open within two months, and the Korangi Causeway will be finished by October 15. He mentioned the Sindh government’s annual funding for Indus Hospital and the upcoming completion of the Azimpura Flyover, along with 12,000- and 8,000-foot roads. He reaffirmed Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s promise of delivering results, highlighting ongoing development in all seven districts and expressing optimism for Karachi’s future.

Mayor Wahab confirmed visible progress in all seven districts, criticizing the Steel Mill administration’s water connection cuts affecting Gulshan Haider and surrounding areas, questioning the absence of federal ministers and Jamaat-e-Islami on the issue, and threatening to lay Water Corporation pipelines to Steel Mill.

He criticized the Governor of Sindh’s political involvement and called on the Prime Minister to address the issue. He also expressed concern about the situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and concluded by emphasizing the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation’s ongoing stormwater drain cleaning efforts and commitment to public service.
