Karachi Mayor Inaugurates Urban Forest Initiative Along Lyari River

Karachi, In a significant environmental initiative, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the creation of an urban forest around the Lyari River in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, aiming to enhance the city’s green spaces and combat urban heat.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab announced the planting of three thousand trees along the Malir River’s left bank and additional green projects across the city’s suburban areas. The urban forest initiative is part of a broader effort to tackle pollution and reduce temperatures in Karachi, utilizing techniques that have gained global recognition for their effectiveness in improving urban environments. The project also includes the vigorous renovation of small and large parks throughout Karachi to bolster recreational facilities for residents.

Mayor Wahab highlighted the benefits of urban forestry, noting international support for such projects to minimize environmental pollution through extensive tree planting. He detailed plans for ongoing enhancements to Karachi’s major parks, roads, and green belts, emphasizing the strategic planting of seasonal flora and maintenance efforts to ensure sustainability. The initiative extends to improvements at Karachi Zoo, Safari Park, and other recreational venues, underscoring a city-wide commitment to enhancing living conditions through environmental action.
