Karachi Mayor Inaugurates Upgraded Jamila Street Pumping Station.

Karachi: Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, alongside Deputy Mayor Salman Abdullah Murad and M.D Water Corporation Asadullah Khan, officially opened the renovated Jamila Street Pumping Station on Saturday. The event was attended by Member of Provincial Assembly Muhammad Yousuf Baloch, PPP leader Khalil Hoat, Deputy Parliamentary Leader of PPP in KMC Council Dil Muhammad, and other local leaders.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the Mayor announced that the pumping station’s capacity had increased from 9 million gallons to 17 million gallons, aiming to address sewage issues in the Old City, Saddar, Lyari, Garden, and surrounding areas. He noted that despite previous elected officials in the area, improvements were not initiated until local residents’ requests were addressed in this project.

The Mayor detailed the installation of five new imported pumps and standby generators at the station, aiming to mitigate load-shedding issues. He stressed Lyari’s significance as the “crown of the city” and pledged continued support for its residents.

Further, he highlighted positive changes in Cheel Chowk, attributing them to Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s efforts, and encouraged the media to report on Karachi’s development projects. The historical significance of the 1887-built Jamila Street Pumping Station was also noted, with the Mayor expressing regret over the neglect of Karachi’s heritage buildings.

In response to media inquiries, the Mayor criticized the PTI’s inconsistent positions and underscored their message that Bilawal Bhutto Zardari is expected to bring jobs and improvements. He also addressed the misuse of land provided for railway tracks, criticizing entities like Port Qasim and Karachi Port Trust for not investing in Karachi’s infrastructure. The KMC’s commitment to enhancing the city’s roads and infrastructure was reaffirmed, with a promise of non-discriminatory service to all areas.
