Karachi, a comma: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab, during the inauguration of Iqbal Park in Block 14 Gulberg Town, emphasized the Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) role in challenging the politics of prejudice and discrimination in Karachi. He detailed ongoing development projects across the city and expressed a firm commitment to restoring Karachi’s status as the city of lights. The inauguration of Iqbal Park underlines the city’s efforts to enhance public spaces and improve civic services.
According to Media KMC, Wahab stated that the PPP is actively working in all seven districts and twenty-five towns of Karachi. He announced plans to inaugurate 32 roads in the next ten days as part of the journey of improvement and development. The Mayor emphasized the importance of transparent elections and credited former President Asif Zardari with creating the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), advocating for the people to judge political performance based on tangible work.
The inauguration of Iqbal Park, part of the Karachi Mega Project, was attended by Deputy Mayor Karachi Salman Abdullah Murad, People’s Party Central District President Masroor Ahsan, and other notable figures. The park, spanning approximately 5 acres, features a walking track, parking area, and grounds for cricket and football, aimed at providing recreational facilities to residents. Wahab highlighted the park’s construction as evidence of the city’s development work without discrimination and mentioned other ongoing projects like the Bakhtiari Youth Center and an underpass at Meena Bazar Karimabad.
The Mayor also addressed Karachi’s infrastructure issues, including garbage collection and road construction. He emphasized the responsibility of elected representatives to improve the city’s infrastructure, vital for its role as an export hub. He mentioned the NFC’s contribution to the agricultural sector and the management of flood water and wheat cultivation.
Responding to a question about Karachi Water and Sewerage Corporation’s liabilities, Wahab noted the financial challenges and the need for better service delivery. The inauguration of Iqbal Park and the Mayor’s remarks reflect a focus on urban development and the importance of public amenities in Karachi’s growth and revitalization.
