Karachi, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab inaugurated the Shahrah Captain Abdul Moiz and announced significant infrastructure developments in the North Karachi industrial area, focusing on improving roads, water, and sewerage systems.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, during his address to industrialists at the event, Mayor Wahab emphasized the transformation of Karachi under the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), highlighting the absence of “Bhatta” (extortion) politics and wheel-jam strikes. He pointed out the city’s first metropolitan university establishment and plans for new schools of Information Technology and Business Administration.
Wahab noted the construction of 33 roads in the site area without federal government funding, lamenting the fact that the efforts of the PPP are often overlooked. He called for collaboration to address the city’s challenges, advocating for unity over prejudice.
The Mayor also discussed the administration’s commitment to Karachi’s development, citing an investment of Rs 570 million in infrastructure improvements. He underscored the importance of Karachi as the economic engine of the country, advocating for the city’s first right to gas resources, as stated in Article 158 of the constitution.
In addition to road construction, the Mayor highlighted ongoing projects to improve the water supply system, including a new canal from the hub dam. He also addressed the need for improved solid waste management and announced plans for further road and infrastructure projects funded by the Sindh government.
Faisal Moiz, President of the North Karachi Association of Trade and Industry, spoke about the challenges facing the area’s industries, including high electricity and gas prices and issues with water and sewerage. He also emphasized the significant contribution of the local garment industry to Pakistan’s economy.
