Karachi: Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has embarked on a three-day official visit to Shanghai, China, at the invitation of Shanghai’s Mayor, Gong Zheng. The visit aims to strengthen bilateral relations between the two cities and explore opportunities for collaboration in urban development.
Accompanying the Mayor on this trip are key officials including KMC Municipal Commissioner S.M. Afzal Zaidi, Financial Advisor Gulzar Ali Abro, and Senior Director of Sports and Culture Mehdi Maloof. The delegation plans to examine various urban development projects in Shanghai to gain insights that may be applicable to Karachi.
Prior to the visit, Mayor Wahab met with Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan Peoples Party, at Bilawal House. During the meeting, the Mayor outlined the details of the visit and the invitation from Shanghai’s Mayor. Bilawal Bhutto Zardari acknowledged the importance of the visit, offering guidance and completing consultations on relevant matters.
While in Shanghai, Mayor Wahab is set to meet with senior Chinese officials. These discussions will focus on potential cooperation in areas such as urban development, infrastructure, and transport, aiming to foster institutional collaboration between the cities.
This visit is viewed as a potential catalyst for Karachi’s urban development. By drawing from the development models of Shanghai, Karachi could make strides toward progress. Under Mayor Wahab’s leadership, this initiative seeks to establish a foundation for enduring relations between Karachi and Shanghai.
