Karachi Mayor Counters Criticism of City’s Drainage During Recent Rains

Karachi: In response to recent heavy rains, Mayor Karachi, Barrister Murtaza Wahab, has refuted negative claims about the city’s major roads, including Rashid Minhas Road and Shahrah-e-Faisal, asserting that these arteries remain clear of water, with only minor issues in less prominent areas. The Mayor highlighted ongoing efforts to address these problems and criticized those spreading what he described as false information.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab expressed his views during a series of visits to various key locations in the city, where he inspected the state of roads and drainage systems. Accompanied by key municipal officials, the Mayor stressed the unity and determination of municipal workers, who he said have been diligently working to facilitate the public during the rains.

During discussions with media and town chairmen, Mayor Wahab emphasized the city’s proactive measures, which have prevented significant waterlogging on main roads, contrary to circulating rumors. He specifically addressed claims about severe water buildup at Nipa Chowrangi and Tariq Road, confirming that continuous drainage efforts have largely kept these areas passable.

The Mayor’s tour included strategic roads such as Shaheed-e-Millat and Shahrah-e-Quaideen, where he reviewed improvements made to drainage systems, noting a marked enhancement over previous years. He acknowledged that while some streets near low-lying areas have experienced water accumulation, efforts are being made to clear these spots rapidly.

Mayor Wahab concluded his remarks by reiterating his commitment to not only improving physical infrastructure but also addressing public perceptions, underscoring a need to foster hope and positivity about the city’s future prospects.
