Karachi Mayor Celebrates Independence Day with Journalists, Announces Key Infrastructure Projects


Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab marked Independence Day with a visit to the Karachi Press Club, where he participated in a flag-hoisting ceremony and a cake-cutting event alongside journalists. During the visit, he engaged in discussions about the city’s development, revealing several upcoming infrastructure projects.



Mayor Wahab announced the inauguration dates for three major projects: Karimabad Underpass on September 30, Korangi Causeway Bridge on November 15, and Shahrah-e-Bhutto up to Kathore on December 31. Additionally, he spoke about the soon-to-be-launched Gutter Baghicha Water Treatment Plant, which is expected to bolster the city’s industrial water supply, underlining the importance of industry for Karachi’s economic health.



The event was attended by notable figures including Member National Assembly Mirza Ikhtiar Baig, Press Club President Fazil Jamili, and national cricketer Sarfaraz Ahmed, among others. The gathering provided an opportunity for the Mayor to discuss ongoing projects such as the New Hub Canal and TP-1, reiterating his administration’s commitment to development and clear vision for the city.



Mayor Wahab highlighted the media’s crucial role in democracy and public awareness, emphasizing its significance in shaping policy and bridging the gap between the government and the public. He invited constructive criticism from the press, stressing the importance of transparency, accountability, and performance in transforming Karachi into a modern city.



In his address, the Mayor assured the journalists of his continued cooperation and detailed the ongoing initiatives aimed at enhancing Karachi’s infrastructure and public services. The meeting underscored the administration’s dedication to improving the city with collaborative efforts from all stakeholders.
