Karachi Mayor Assures Smooth Drainage and Preparedness Amid Rainfall

Karachi: Following recent rains across the city, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has affirmed that the drainage systems are functioning effectively, and the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) is well-prepared to handle the ongoing monsoon season. During his tour of the affected areas, the Mayor highlighted the city’s readiness to address any further rainfall.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Mayor Wahab noted that the city’s stormwater drains are maintaining normal flow, largely due to recent efforts to clear choke points that historically led to waterlogging. This proactive measure is part of a broader strategy by KMC, in cooperation with other civic bodies, to ensure minimal disruption during heavy rains.

The Mayor pointed out that the Meteorological Department predicts more rainfall, but reassured citizens that comprehensive preparations, including the ongoing cleaning of drains, have been made. He also mentioned that the Master Control Room (MCR) staff was actively monitoring the situation on major roads during the rains, ready to respond swiftly to any emergencies.

In addition to regular monitoring, Mayor Wahab emphasized that essential equipment and machinery have been strategically placed in flood-prone areas to facilitate quick drainage. Continuous collaboration with Deputy Commissioners and district municipal authorities is crucial to his strategy of ensuring that the city’s response mechanisms are effective and efficient.
