Karachi: Karachi is witnessing significant infrastructure and healthcare developments under the leadership of its current mayor, a member of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP). The city is moving towards enhanced development and improvement, as announced today. Efforts are underway to restore Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, with recent inaugurations including a Pediatric Skill Lab aimed at aiding the city’s underserved populations. Additional renovations include updates to the trauma center, city scan facilities, laboratory, and gynae ward, along with the reopening of the long-closed School of Nursing.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, extensive repair work is also underway on major roads, with a budget of 2 billion rupees dedicated to these improvements. The road carpeting projects, alongside efforts to enhance street lighting on key roads such as MA Jinnah Road and Sharia Faisal, are being closely monitored by the parliamentary leader and spokesman for the Karachi mayor. The initiatives align with the vision of Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party, to restore Karachi as a “city of lights.”
Progress in Karachi’s energy sector includes the installation of 259 solar poles across three major highways, expected to generate 700 units of electricity. These efforts are part of a broader strategy to enhance the city’s sustainability and reduce reliance on traditional power sources.
The mayor’s initiatives also extend to water management, with the ongoing Karachi Water and Sewerage Improvement Project aiming to resolve long-standing sewage issues. The Sindh Government has allocated 77 billion rupees for a mega water project, set to become operational by December 2024, to ensure the provision of quality water across Karachi.
The developments reflect the city’s political landscape, with the mayor’s performance gaining approval from the public, as evidenced by the recent by-elections. The efforts are seen as a commitment to addressing the needs of Karachi’s citizens, aligning with the PPP’s vision of solving common challenges faced by the population.
