Karachi: Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has outlined a proactive strategy to manage the city’s stormwater drainage issues, emphasizing the importance of readiness and maintenance to prevent flooding during the monsoon season. His plans include the deployment of resources across the city to ensure efficient water drainage and to address traffic disruptions caused by rainwater accumulation.
According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, During a tour of various drainage sites, Mayor Wahab detailed a collaborative approach with all town administrations to expedite the cleaning of major and suburban drains. This initiative aims to alleviate the city’s perennial flooding issues, particularly in low-lying areas. He inspected several key sites, such as Bilawal Chowrangi Nala and Isa Nagri Nala, issuing directives to enhance the drainage systems ahead of expected rains.
Mayor Wahab also highlighted recent successes, including the removal of encroachments around Gujjar and Mehmoodabad drains, which have significantly improved water flow. He stressed the importance of community cooperation in keeping drainage sites clear of waste to facilitate effective maintenance. The mayor’s appeal to the public underscores a collective responsibility toward maintaining cleanliness and functionality in the city’s drainage infrastructure.
