Karachi Mayor Allocates Sites for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations

Karachi: In a step toward promoting clean energy, Mayor Karachi, Syed Murtaza Wahab, has approved the allocation of three sites under the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) for the setup of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations. This initiative was discussed with Malik Khuda Bakhsh, Chairman of Malik Group of Companies, in a meeting held yesterday.

The meeting, conducted in the presence of Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah and vehicle importers, focused on establishing charging stations at strategic locations within the city. Mayor Wahab agreed to provide land at the KMC Head Office, Water Board Parking on Shahrah-e-Faisal, and the parking area of Dolmen Mall Clifton.

Mayor Wahab emphasized the KMC’s commitment to clean air and pollution reduction, aligning with the Sindh government’s environmental goals. He encouraged foreign investment in electric vehicle manufacturing and charging infrastructure in Karachi.

Malik Khuda Bakhsh revealed plans to import 30 charging plants from China, collaborating with Chinese investors for installations across Pakistan, including Sindh. He aims to have the infrastructure operational by year-end and expressed gratitude to the provincial authorities for their support.

The Karachi Metropolitan Corporation confirmed these developments in a recent press release.
