Karachi Mayor Advocates for Unity and Preservation of Historical Heritage

Karachi, Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab emphasized the need for unity and the adoption of the city’s historical heritage to overcome challenges and discrimination within the country. In a seminar on Digital Sindh and the swearing-in ceremony for the newly elected office bearers of the Sports Journalists Association Sindh (SJAS) held at Karachi Gymkhana on Wednesday, Wahab expressed his vision for a peaceful and prosperous Karachi for future generations, free from the legacy of strikes and unrest that has marred the city.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, Wahab addressed the issues of defamation faced by government institutions and the negative perceptions that hinder the city’s and province’s progress. He underscored the importance of local efforts in transforming Karachi, stating that no external help from places like London or Canada would come to address the city’s problems. Instead, he urged residents to connect with one another and embrace mutual support to solve the city’s issues.

The Mayor also expressed optimism about the potential of the newly elected SJAS governing body to elevate sports journalism standards and protect the interests of journalists within the field. He anticipated that their efforts would promote sports activities across Sindh and encourage the emergence of new talent.

Highlighting efforts to preserve Karachi’s rich history, Wahab revealed plans to establish a Metropolitan Museum in the historical Denso Hall. This museum will house documents and materials significant to Karachi’s heritage, aiming to enlighten both locals and visitors about the city’s past, including notable events like the visit of the Queen of England to the KMC Building in 1961.

Wahab’s remarks reflect a commitment to changing perceptions about Karachi and Sindh, focusing on the positive aspects and potential of the city and province. He hopes that future efforts will lead to a better time for the city, province, and the country as a whole.
