Karachi: In an effort to combat the rise of vector-borne diseases such as malaria, dengue, and chikungunya, Mayor Karachi Barrister Murtaza Wahab has initiated a citywide fumigation campaign. The campaign, which started on November 1, utilizes 30 vehicles from the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) to spray insecticides across the city’s 25 town municipal corporations, focusing on areas prone to mosquito breeding.

According to Karachi Metropolitan Corporation, the spraying activities are strategically scheduled during evening hours when mosquitoes are most active. The campaign’s first phase included extensive fumigation in Baldia Town, Mauripur Town, Chanesar Town, and Gulshan Town. The schedule is set to continue with targeted fumigation across various towns daily until November 12, ensuring comprehensive coverage from Gadap Town to Shah Faisal Town.

The town administrations have been actively involved, with a focus on ensuring that no area is overlooked. KMC has called on citizens to cooperate with the fumigation efforts and to alert the authorities if any areas are missed, so that immediate action can be taken. Each town municipal corporation is responsible for obtaining a completion certificate from the KMC’s Malaria Inspector to certify the thoroughness of the fumigation.
